RESUMO

In order to quench the thirst for efficient energy storage devices, a novel praseodymium-based state-of-the-art three-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF), {[Pr(pdc)2]Me2NH2}n (YK-1), has been synthesized by using a simple solvothermal method employing a readily available ligand. YK-1 was characterised by single-crystal XRD and crystallographic analysis. The electrochemical measurements of YK-1 show that it exhibits a specific capacitance of 363.5 F g-1 at a current density of 1.5 A g-1 with 83.8% retention after 5000 cycles. In order to enhance its electrochemical performance for practical application, two composites of YK-1 with graphene oxide (GO) and functionalised multi-walled carbon nanotubes (FCNTs), namely YK-1@GO and YK-1@FCNT, were fabricated by employing a facile ultrasonication technique. The as-synthesized MOF and the composites were characterized by PXRD, FTIR, SEM, and TEM techniques. YK-1@GO and YK-1@FCNT offer enhanced specific capacitances of 488.2 F g-1 and 730.2 F g-1 at the same current density with 93.8% and 97.7% capacity retention after 5000 cycles, respectively (at 16 A g-1). Fascinated by the outstanding results shown by YK-1@FCNT, a symmetric supercapacitor device (SSC) based on it was fabricated. The assembled SSC achieved a remarkable energy density (87.6 W h kg-1) and power density (750.2 W kg-1) at a current density of 1 A g-1, along with very good cycling stability of 91.4% even after 5000 GCD cycles. The SSC device was able to power up several LED lights and even operated a DC brushless fan for a significant amount of time. To the best of our knowledge, the assembled SSC device exhibits the highest energy density among the MOF composite-based SSCs reported so far.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular and their associated disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death worldwide, in developed and developing countries, and its prevalence has increased over the past few decades, due to changes in the lifestyle of people. Biomarkers are important tools for diagnosing, analyzing, and providing evidence of pathological conditions of CVD and their associated diseases. METHODS: This study reviews historical cardiovascular biomarkers used to diagnose various diseases, their uses, and limitations, as well as the importance of new and emerging biomarkers. CONCLUSION: sST2, GDF-15, CD-40, IL-6, and Micro-RNA. Initial studies of the future of cardiac biomarkers are promising, but more research is needed to demonstrate that they are more effective biomarkers of risk factors for CVD development. They also lack the analytical foundation needed for adoption in the medical industry. It is also necessary to determine whether these biomarkers can be used for diagnosis.

RESUMO

Objectives: The poor prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is vastly due to late diagnosis. The oral submucosal fibrosis (OSMF) is often unnoticed pathology linked with high risk of malignancy. Recently, we demonstrated that the clinicopathological alterations in OSMF and OSCC patients were correlated with cancer stem cell (CSCs) markers (CD133 and CD44). However, the parallel alterations of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1ß) with CSCs expression are largely unexplored. Thus, we aimed to investigate the relationship between IL-1ß alterations and CSC marker expression in both OSMF and OSCC situations. Materials and Methods: A total of 135 people have signed up for the study. There were sixty each in OSMF and OSCC groups, as well as 15 healthy controls. Levels of serum IL-1ß were examined by ELISA. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to examine the expression of CD133 and CD44. For evaluating differential CSCs expression, IHC scoring (0-4) was utilized. Results: The IHC results showed maximum subjects in the OSMF and OSCC displaying CD44 and CD133 positivity, although the extent of expression in terms of IHC scoring found variable. CD133 and CD44-positive subjects showed increased levels of IL-1ß in the OSMF and OSCC group. Nevertheless, the enhancement of IL-1ß is more pronounced in the OSCC cases. Further, we observed a direct link of IL-1ß levels with IHC scoring. Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated a significant role for CD44 and CD133 positivity in the increase of IL-1ß levels. Conclusion: We concluded that concurrent simultaneous changes in CSC biomarkers and IL-1ß may help with early detection of OSMF and OSCC conditions.

RESUMO

The automobile vehicles must be operated on fuel containing no more than 10% ethanol. Use of fuel having more than 10% ethanol may cause engine malfunction, starting and running issues, and material degradation. These negative impacts could cause irreversible damage to the vehicles. Therefore, ethanol mixing in petrol should be controlled below 10% level. The current work is the first to report sensing of ethanol mixing in petrol with reference to the variation in the DC electrical conductivity of polythiophene/graphitic-carbon nitride (PTh/gC3N4) nanocomposite. The in situ chemical oxidative method of polymerization was used for synthesizing PTh and PTh/gC3N4 nanocomposite. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-rays diffraction (XRD), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), transmittance electron microscopy (TEM) as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis were used for confirmation of the structure along with morphology of the PTh and PTh/gC3N4 nanocomposite. The thermal stability of DC electrical conductivity of PTh and PTh/gC3N4 nanocomposite were tested under isothermal and cyclic ageing condition. The sensing response of PTh and PTh/gC3N4 nanocomposite as a function of DC electrical conductivity were recorded in petrol and ethanol atmosphere. The sensing response of PTh/g-C3N4 nanocomposite in petrol atmosphere was 6.1 times higher than that of PTh with lower detection limit to 0.005 v/v% of ethanol prepared in n-hexane.

RESUMO

Objectives Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most destructive disease caused by persistent HPV infection which affects women worldwide, especially in developing countries. The genetic basis of host immune response especially cytokine function has been shown to influence CC susceptibility. Studies have demonstrated that IL-10 gene polymorphism have been associated with numerous malignancies, but in context to CC results were inconclusive. Though, aim of our study to investigate the association between IL-10 -1082A/G and -819C/T promoter polymorphism and CC susceptibility. Material and Methods This study comprised 192 women with CC and 200 controls. HPV detection was done by RT-PCR and genotyping was assessed through PCR-RFLP method. Serum concentration of IL-10 measured by ELISA. Results Women with AG and AG+GG genotypes of IL-10 -1082A/G had two-fold increased risk of CC [OR, 2.35 (95% CI, 1.54-3.58), p  = 0.005], [OR, 2.03 (95% CI, 1.36-3.04), p  = 0.0005] compared to controls. Women with G allele of -1082A/G polymorphism had linked with CC susceptibility [OR, 1.39 (95% CI, 1.02-1.88), p  = 0.036] compared to controls. No significant difference was found between patients and controls in the genotype or allele frequencies of IL-10 -819C/T polymorphism [OR, 1.00 (95% CI, 0.63-1.58), p  = 0.99]. The level of serum concentration of IL-10 was significantly higher in cases compared to controls. Conclusion These findings help to understand that polymorphism of IL-10 -1082A/G gene is associated with increased risk of CC development and can serve as a marker of genetic susceptibility to CC.

RESUMO

Polypyrrole (PPy) and Polypyrrole/MoS2 (PPy/MoS2) nanocomposites were successfully prepared, characterized and studied for ammonia sensing properties. The as-prepared PPy and PPy/MoS2 nanocomposites were confirmed by FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy) techniques. The ammonia sensing properties of PPy and PPy/MoS2 nanocomposites were studied in terms of change in DC electrical conductivity on exposure to ammonia vapors followed by ambient air at room temperature. It was observed that the incorporation of MoS2 in PPy showed high sensitivity, significant stability and excellent reversibility. The enhanced sensing properties of PPy/MoS2 nanocomposites could be attributed to comparatively high surface area, appropriate sensing channels and efficiently available active sites. The sensing mechanism is explained on the basis of simple acid-base chemistry of polypyrrole.

RESUMO

Polyaniline@graphene/nickel oxide (Pani@GN/NiO), polyaniline/graphene (Pani/GN), and polyaniline/nickel oxide (Pani/NiO) nanocomposites and polyaniline (Pani) were successfully synthesized and tested for ammonia sensing. Pani@GN/NiO, Pani/NiO, Pani/GN, and Pani were characterized using X-ray diffraction, UV-vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The as-prepared materials were studied for comparative dc electrical conductivity and the change in their electrical conductivity on exposure to ammonia vapors followed by ambient air at room temperature. It was observed that the incorporation of GN/NiO in Pani showed about 99 times greater amplitude of conductivity change than pure Pani on exposure to ammonia vapors followed by ambient air. The fast response and excellent recovery time could probably be ascribed to the relatively high surface area of the Pani@GN/NiO nanocomposite, proper sensing channels, and efficaciously available active sites. Pani@GN/NiO was observed to show better selectivity toward ammonia because of the comparatively high basic nature of ammonia than other volatile organic compounds tested. The sensing mechanism was explained on the basis of the simple acid-base chemistry of Pani.

RESUMO

B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) also called chronic lymphocytic leukemia is a disease of elderly, but in rare cases it can occur in young adults. Majority of patients present with no specific symptoms, and CLL is suspected on the basis of high total and relative lymphocyte counts, discovered on routine blood examination. This patient was referred from medicine outpatient in our institute, Era's Lucknow Medical College & Hospital for routine complete blood count. His total leukocyte count came out to be alarmingly high. The general blood picture and bone marrow examinations were consistent with CLL. On immunophenotyping CD5 and CD23 were positive. His cervical lymph nodes biopsy was reported as a case of CLL/small lymphocytic lymphoma. On his complaint of hazy vision his funduscopy revealed maculopathy. This makes our case a unique and rare one, as maculopathy in a young patient of CLL has not yet been reported from India.
